Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

Sikkim Dental Registration Tribunal/ Sikkim Dental Council is statutory body created as per the provision of section 21 of the Dentists Act, 1948. Sikkim Dental Registration Tribunal/Sikkim Dental Council is registered & recognized by Dental Council of India. This council is authorized to do the Registration of B.D.S., M.D.S., Dental Hygienists, and Dental Mechanics as per the schedule of Dental Council of India.

The Council is financed mainly by grants from the Govt. of Sikkim, Health care, Human services & Family Welfare Department, though the other source of income of the Council is the fees realized every year by various registered Dentists under section 33 of the Dentists Act.

World Oral Health Day

World Oral Health Day is observed annually on 20 March, and launches a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the issues around and the importance of oral hygiene so that governments, health associations and the general public can work together to achieve healthier mouths and happier lives. Of the world's population, 90% will suffer from oral diseases in their lifetime, many avoidable.Organized by FDI World Dental Federation, World Oral Health Day involves campaigns by national dental associations from around the world with activities in over 130 countries.

World Oral Health Day was launched on 20 March 2013 by FDI World Dental Federation. The day also marks the launch of a year-long campaign to raise awareness of oral health and prevention of oral diseases. Since 2013 these campaigns have featured a specific theme.

The fees are subject to review by the Government from time to time, on the recommendation of the Council. The Council may also levy appropriate charges for the supply of application forms and other documents to compensate for the expenses incurred in stationery and printing.
